About

The story behind the books.

Find the Light Books takes everyday people and creates paths to authorship — publishing heartfelt children’s picture books and guiding first-time writers from blank page to published author.

Founder & Resident Author

Meet Genie Webb.

Genie Webb is a children’s picture book author — and the founder and resident author of Find the Light Books. She writes about the real stuff — new siblings, bedtime battles — and helps real people write their way through theirs.

Her first two books started with her own kids. Princess Lydi and the Baby Brother (2017) is named for her daughter, Lydia — the big-sister story for every child wondering where they fit when a new baby arrives. Baby Daniel and the Bedtime Blues (2018) is named for her son, Daniel — for every parent who has ever negotiated with a toddler at 8 p.m.

In November 2014, when Genie was 38 weeks pregnant, a driver hit her and kept driving. She got her three-year-old daughter to safety. Her son arrived early — and he made it. They all made it. That’s when she understood what her stories were really about: even on the hardest nights, with a little bit of magic and a lot of love, you can always find the light.

The Business

What Find the Light Books does.

Find the Light Books is a social enterprise supporting the community through story writing and book publication. Its mission: improving the emotional well-being of individuals and communities through compassionate conversation and self-reflection.

The bulk book program puts heartfelt picture books into classrooms, waiting rooms, welcome-home kits, and family events. Schools, preschools, clinics, nonprofits, and sponsors order in bulk — and books ship anywhere in the United States.

The Your Story. Your Voice. workshops, started in Racine, Wisconsin in 2018, teach story-writing and positive decision-making to young people and adults. Four community anthologies have come out of those workshops: Be the Hero (2018), Super HUMANS (2019), This Isn’t Easy (the first adult workshop, held virtually), and Stronger.

In 2019, Find the Light Books went through the WWBIC Growth Accelerator and placed third at Demo Day. The work continues today from Charlotte, North Carolina — where every bulk order and every sponsored book keeps the mission going.

Who We Are

Real people who write their way through.

We’re Find the Light Books. We’re not teachers, therapists, or famous authors. We’re real people who’ve been through some things — and decided to write our way through them.

Find the Light Books was created for anyone who’s ever said, “I’ve always wanted to write my story, but I don’t know where to start.”

Our workshops and workbooks are simple, supportive spaces to help you do just that — with a little guidance, a little community, and a lot of heart. You don’t need to be a writer. You just need to be ready. We’ll help you find the words, one page at a time.

The Mission

A social enterprise, not just a bookstore.

Find the Light Books exists to build up the community through story writing and book publication — improving the emotional well-being of individuals and communities through compassionate conversation and self-reflection. Every bulk order and every sponsored book keeps that going.
